Erosion is a huge problem. Wind and water can move bare soil around and strip a hillside or field quickly. Plus, all that soil can get into various waterways and cause serious problems. In the worst-case scenario, erosion can actually exacerbate huge disasters, like the Dust Bowl in the 1930s. Because of the potential problems, you need to make sure that you are dealing with erosion around any worksite you are in charge of. There are several ways that you can do this. One way is to use an erosion control blanket.

Erosion Control Blanket

These blankets aren't really made out of fabric that you would buy at the local fabric store, but there are special fabrics designed to work outside and help protect the soil from erosion. These fabrics are often made out of some sort of woven plastic. Erosion control blankets can also be made from woven vegetation, like coconut husks, straw, or other similar things. Each of the materials has its own benefits and drawbacks. For example, plastic fabrics can usually be easily removed when done with them and ready to conquer the space. Blankets made out of vegetation can eventually break down and help enrich the soil. They can also have seeds embedded in them to grow as the mats break down. You will find many reasons to want to use some of these mats on your job site to help keep erosion under control.

Retention of Materials

One reason is that if you can cover up piles of dirt that you will use later on in your job, you will have as much dirt as possible to do your job. If you have a spoils, pile that you are going to have to eventually use to refill holes or cover up parts of your site with, then being able to protect that dirt by putting a fabric blanket down over the pile will mean that you have to bring in less fill dirt when it's time to bury things. Otherwise, you will have to deal with the wind and the rain carrying off the soil. A plastic fabric would work well here since you aren't looking for a more permanent solution.

If you have a job site, it's likely that you have bare areas that are open to erosion. You want to make sure that you are doing what you can to protect those areas. Contact a company that offers products like Curlex erosion control blankets to learn more about their applications.
